Robert F. Sanborn, age 85, beloved husband of the late Velta (nee Robin), for 60 years. Dear father of William, Bruce & Steven Sanborn (Michelle) and Lisa Burkhardt (Troy). Loving grandfather of Michael, Robert, Spencer, Kyle, Matthew, Ryan, Bristy and Blake. Uncle to many. 

Bob grew up in Westlake and was a graduate of Westlake High School.  He attended college and was a graduate of Bowling Green State University majoring in Education (Industrial Arts) and a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity.

Bob taught for 5 years in Onsted, MI where he met his wife, Velta.  Bob returned to Ohio settling in North Olmsted where he taught at Berea High School for 28 years.  Over the years, Bob worked part-time to support his growing family at Lawson’s and Sears, and he painted houses in the summer. 

Bob coached Berea High School golf and girls’ basketball and softball. After retiring from teaching, Bob worked at the North Olmsted Recreation Center, and also at the Rocky River Recreation Center.  Bob was active in softball, bowling, and golf leagues, and later he was a softball umpire for the North Olmsted Rec. 

Bob was always active with his sons and the Boy Scouts serving as a Webelo Leader, Assistant Scout Master, and Scout Master.  Bob also served as an assistant baseball coach and assistant hockey coach.  Bob and his wife, Velta, could be found at their children’s activities from baseball, football, wrestling, hockey, track, marching band, Eaglet Kickline, and ballet and jazz recitals.  Bob also volunteered several years as the Deerfield Development Homeowners pool manager.

Memorial Service will be Saturday, Nov 21 at 10:30 am at the Advent Episcopal Church, 3760 Dover Center Road, Westlake. Contributions may be made to the church

Bob was a special teacher and friend to me. And more of a friend after marrying a classmate Velta.

So sorry to hear of Bob's passing. Bob was a great mentor at NORC. I learned many useful techniques in construction and skate sharpening from him. Also, I enjoyed all our long talks. He will be greatly missed.
