August 31, 1937 ‐ June 26, 2020
Birthplace: Hungary Resided In: North Olmsted, Ohio
Steve Horvath (82), recently of North Olmsted, OH, passed away on June 26, 2020 at Ames Family Hospice House with his devoted sons by his side.
Steve was born István Horváth on August 31, 1937 in Kup, Hungary, the second born of eight children of Mary and James Horváth. He emigrated to Cleveland in 1956 with his cherished sister, Elizabeth (Horváth) Ferenczek. He ultimately settled in Brunswick then Columbia Station, OH where he lovingly tended his land after his retirement from Modern Tool and Die in Valley City.
Steve was passionate about fitness and developed deep friendships at both the Strongsville and North Olmsted Recreation Centers which he visited frequently until the COVID shutdowns and his declining health forced him to stay home. But his friends will not be surprised to hear he left us as physically strong as ever.
Ultimately, Steve’s greatest joy in life came from his grandchildren, who all inherited his unique sparkle, humor and love of family. Christopher (Patricia), Joshua, Joseph and Erin Horvath and Mickey Williams will forever cherish the love and guidance they received from their spirited and doting grandfather, as will his three loving great grandchildren, Emma, Ethan and Savannah Horvath.
Steve was preceded in death by his wife of 25 years, Marie Horvath, his parents, his sister Elizabeth, and three siblings in Hungary. Steve is survived by his sons, Frank (Wendy) Horvath of Olmsted Falls and Jeffrey Horvath of Medina, their mother, Valeria Horvath, his niece Erika (Lee) Neumann, step-daughter Gail (Mitchell) Williams and three younger siblings in Hungary. The Horvath Family is grateful for Steve’s extended family of Dr. Abdul and Leila Orra and their children who brought him friendship and purpose after moving to North Olmsted.
Private mass and internment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery in Brook Park. The family hopes to hold a Celebration of Life at a later date when we can all join together in joy of what Steve brought to us all. Please email steve.horvath.memorial@gmail.
