Betty Keckler (nee Buckeye), age 88, beloved wife of the late David. Mother of Kenneth (Teresa) and Andrew (LuWen) Keckler. Grandmother of Amy, Christopher (April), Kelly, and Cynthia Keckler, and Chris Yamamoto. Sister of Robert, Alvin dec. (Gloria) and Donald dec. (Nancy) Buckeye. Celebration of life to be held at 5 pm on Friday, December 27 at Jenkins Funeral Chapel, 2914 Dover Center Road, Westlake, where family and friends will be received from 4 pm.

Betty was born in Lakewood, Ohio, in 1931 to Andrew and Elizabeth Buckeye.  The child of immigrants and born during the Great Depression, she nevertheless excelled in school, obtaining a scholarship to attend college at Kent State.  At a time when few women attended college, she graduated with high honors in 1953, earning a degree in education. 

In 1956, she married David Keckler, and they had a son, Ken, two years later.  In the following years, tragedy struck,and their daughter died in childbirth.  This was followed in 1962 by the birth of their second son, Andrew.

Over the subsequent years, Betty raised her sons and worked for a contractor supporting NASA, and as a legal secretary for a prominent Cleveland discrimination attorney.  She also taught classes part-time, specializing in typing and stenography.  From her days in college, Betty developed a lifelong passion for literature and the theatre.  She also enjoyed travelling across North America and Europe, experiencing different cultures, learning about historical events, and enjoying the wonders of nature.

Betty passed peacefully on December 15.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Betty’s name to the American Parkinson Disease Association.
