Vargo (nee Schneider), age 72, passed away December 19, 2018. Rita Louise Vargo died suddenly on December 19, 2018. Born in Akron, Ohio, she graduated from St. Vincent St. Mary High School and received a Bachelors in Nursing from the University of Akron and a Masters in Nursing from Case Western Reserve University. Rita had a long and successful career in nursing as both a clinician and educator, including at the Cleveland Clinic's esteemed Heart Transplant and LVAD Program. She also worked in the medical device and pharmaceutical industries in both clinical and research roles, most recently as a Director of Clinical Affairs at Genzyme in Cambridge. Massachusetts. She retired professionally in 2017 and lived in Oakland, CA and Cleveland. She enjoyed tending to her garden, reading good books, traveling, and enjoying good food and wine with friends and family. She is survived by her son, Jeffrey M. Vargo of Normal, Illinois, her daughter Carol L. Vargo, her son-in-law Robert Blanchard, two grandchildren, Gray and Henry Blanchard, all of Baltimore, MD, her former husband Daniel J. Vargo of Bath, and her longtime partner James Lathe of Westlake. A memorial service to celebrate Rita's life will be held Friday, December 28, 1:00 to 2:30 pm at Jenkins Chapel, 2914 Dover Center Road, Westlake, 44145. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to the Frances Payne Bolton School Of Nursing, Case Western Reserve University, 10900 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, OH, 44106.
