Dorothy Durieux Antel passed away peacefully on May 14th. She was 91. Dorothy, known to her friends as Dot, was the daughter of George and Mary Durieux of Mount Vernon, Ohio.  Her beloved husband, Carl Antel, brothers, Russell and Lee, and sister, Margene, predecease her. She leaves a loving family, including her son, Scott, her daughter, Lisa, daughters-in-law, Deborah and Louise, granddaughter, Sofi, and many nieces, nephews, and their families.A resident of Westlake for over 60 years, Dorothy was active in many civic organizations, including Westlake’s Junior Women’s Club, the Board of Education, and the League of Women’s Voters. She was also a founding member of the Friends of the Porter Public Library and an advocate of the lifelong merits of education.Dorothy received her BA from Miami University.  She went on to teach history and government at Fredricktown High School. It was here where she reconnected with Carl. Prior to their marriage, Dorothy served for two years in the American Red Cross during the Korean War.  She was stationed at the 8168 Army Hospital in Yokohama, Japan andthe Swedish Red Cross Hospital in Pusan, Korea.  She felt privileged to be one of six American Red Cross personnelto serve in the Operation Big Switch, the final prisoner of war repatriation at Munsan-ni, Korea. Dorothy will be remembered as a woman of great kindness, style, and a definite joie de vivre.Her children fondly recall the love she baked intoher vanilla bean cookies and the care she put into needlepointing their personal Christmas stockings. A memorial service will take place at Westlake United Methodist Church on May 23rd, at 11:00 am. Family greeting and reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Westlake Methodist Church,27650 Center Ridge Rd, Westlake, OH 44145. Dorothy and Carl were long-time members of the church.
